I believe that no matter what the circumstance, any person if putting effort into what they are doing will succeed in what they are doing. The reason I say this is because of the circumstance I am in right now. I am currently on the Varsity basketball team, and it first one would think that this was a chance of a lifetime. The thing that I felt was the complete opposite. I started thinking about playing time, and importance to the team, and last the chemistry with the other members of the team. Last year I was on the jv team, and I loved every moment of it. I had the opportunity to start over 90% of the season, became a captain after a couple of games, and lastly I got along with everyone on the team. With all that chemistry that we had that year I believed the following year we were going to be unbeatable and untouchable on the court. Then the summer varsity league came..... I realized how fast the pace was on the varsity level, and I adjusted to it, but instead of thinking that I would take that experience to the jv league, I was switched to the varsity level. Once I heard the news I was thrilled, one to have the title of a varsity player, and second because I wanted to try something new. Then I realized that I had to start all over, as far as chemistry with different players, I had to adjust back to the fast paced game that the varsity level played to, and at first was very overwhelmed.
Then the fact that I wouldn’t be with my friends from last year also got to me, because they all were on the jv team and I was on the varsity having to be with everybody who was older than me and wanting me to complete tasks for them that at the time I didn’t think I could do. So by having these feelings I started to have thoughts of failure or even quitting, and started feeling depressed afterwards. Then I realized the positive in the situation which was that this year could be used as a learning experience. The good thing about me going to varsity now is that I will already have had a year of varsity under my belt. So when I play more next year I would already be use to the fast pace of the game and know what to do in game-changing situations. Also when it came time for me to step up and take the leadership role it would come naturally to me simply because I would know what to do. That ties in with the whole “In Due Timing” theory. Now I just play or do whatever is needed for me and once I get older and understand the game more it can become easy to me.
